Najarian (College of Information Technology, U. of North Carolina at Charlotte) and Splinter (physics, U. of North Carolina at Charlotte) have designed this text to serve as a senior-undergraduate or beginning-graduate level textbook on the processing of biomedical data. Requiring college-level calculus and some familiarity with complex variables, the text provides description of main signal processing, image processing, and pattern recognition techniques; introduces the major one-dimensional biomedical signals along with explanations of their biological origin and importance, the computational means of processing them, and the physiological and diagnostic applications of the signals; and, finally, reviews all the main biomedical imaging modalities and the computational methods to used to process images.
