Taking a holistic approach, this textbook places counseling theories and the therapeutic process in the context of actual lived experience. Case studies demonstrate the real application of counseling skills and highlight the complexity of client emotions and behaviors. Flasher (clinical psychologist, Children's Health Council) and Fogle (speech-language pathology, University of the Pacific) present strategies for dealing with difficult emotional states, giving bad news, repairing counseling errors, and handling crises.
