Depression is one of the most burdensome and disabling disorders in the world. This volume, which originated as a special issue of the journal RESEARCH AND THEORY IN NURSING PRACTICE, provides new knowledge about depression that can be translated into clinical care on both the individual and community levels. Depression should be a concern of every nurse, regardless of specialty. While physicians focus on etiology and medical treatment, nurses must attend to how people express and deal with this crippling illness.
