Working over a period of eight years, French (management and social sciences, King Alfred's College of Higher Education, Winchester, UK) conducted a study of visually impaired physiotherapists working in Britain, using questionnaires and interviews. The findings are analyzed here and compared to the experience of their sighted colleagues on a wide range of issues including demographic, personal, and employment. French provides a discussion of the theoretical model of disability, disability and employment, and the disabled health and welfare professional (she herself is a visually impaired physiotherapist) before turning to presentation of research.
