This textbook for graduate level courses in nursing combines traditional Western health promotion theories with those of alternative and complementary medicine. Leddy first compares the "disease perspective" dominant in the epidemiological and public health literature with the more person-centered practices of nurses. She then shows how strategies from both schools of thought may be used to inform practice. Some of the nursing interventions described include herbal therapy, bodywork techniques, and instruction in relaxation. Leddy is professor emerita of nursing at Widener U.
