This slim collection of folksy advice and reminiscences from a longtime educator could be titled "Everything I know I learned from my sailboat." Barth's sailing metaphor stretches throughout as brief chapters pass along his "craft knowledge"--"what we learn in the school of hard knocks by showing up"--through idiosyncratic "rules" for defining and dealing with interpersonal relationships on the job. Aimed at teachers and school administrators, the volume aims to bring calm to the workplace so better work can proceed. There is no index.
