Nanoscale Technology in Biological Systems

In this collection of 21 articles, contributors describe recent accomplishments in applying nanotechnology to human biology in the form of biomedical devices. These include implantable devices to replace or sustain parts of the body, biochips, bioanalytical devices, and molecular motors. Topics include a survey of biomaterials, host responses to implanted devices, sensors, synthesis of cell structures, transduction, the impact of devices in DNA structure, biomineralization, imaging, systems in surgery, artifical organs and tissue engineering, microbial biofilms, applications in cardiology and cardiac surgery, vascular disease, cancer, and organ transplantation.
