Czervinske (Respiratory Care Education, U. of Kansas Medical Center) and Barnhart (Arkansas Allergy and Asthma Clinic) present a book principally designed as an introductory textbook to the field, but also intended as a current basic reference for practitioners. The text first discusses fetal pulmonary development along with physiology, circulation, and assessment. Turning to neonatal and pediatric patients, assessment, diagnostic, and monitoring techniques are examined. Current therapies and procedures of respiratory care are considered and issues of etiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, clinical presentation, management, and outcome are discussed. A final section concerns respiratory care during transport and in the home setting. Annotation ©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
