Individual chapter topics include immunoinflammatory response, local contributing factors, radiography, the electronic patient record, acute conditions, conscious sedation, principles and practice of periodontal surgery, and role of occlusion. Seven chapters are devoted to systemic considerations, including the effect of tobacco smoking and alcohol use on periodontal diseases and clinical dental and periodontal management of the medically compromised patient.
