Politics of Deviance
Her attempts to revive the sociology of deviant stymied by the academic culture, Hendershott (sociology, U. of San Diego) writes about how the topic was abandoned in the 1960s an 1970s and has been demonized every since. She argues that in the past it was wealthy and powerful elites who labeled others as deviant, but the prerogative has now been seized in influential interest or advocacy groups such as women's groups and gay rights organizations.
