James C. (Buddy) Howell, Ph.D., worked at the Federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), in the U.S. Department of Justice for 21 years, mostly as Director of Research and Program Development. He also was Director, National Institute of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and Deputy Administrator of OJJDP. He currently is a Senior Research Associate with the National Youth Gang Center in Tallahassee, FL. He also is the author of the book, Juvenile Justice and Youth Violence (Sage), and lead editor of A Sourcebook: Serious, Violent, and Chronic Juvenile Offenders (Sage). Some of his recent work on juvenile delinquency and youth gangs appears in Crime and Delinquency, Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, and Youth Violence and Juvenile Justice. Altogether, he has authored or co-authored more than 70 publications in the fields of juvenile justice and youth gangs.
