In contrast to the dominant medical model of psychiatry, the ecological framework emphasizes culturally- and strength-based psychosocial interventions in non-threatening community settings. In introducing ten discussions of issues and applications of such models for treating the growing refugee population, Miller (San Francisco State U.) and Rasco (U. of California, Berkeley) overview the human situation behind the statistics and ecological principles.
